Building Remodel Progress

8/13/2013

Phase II of our church building remodel began on May 5th. This phase includes:
  1. A new roof.
  2. Restrooms with showers.
  3. Teacher's Workroom.
  4. Adult classroom.
  5. Multipurpose room.
  6. Kitchen.
  7. Various wall and floor repairs.
  8. Patio.

No doubt that the biggest, messiest and most dangerous part has been removing the old (200 years old) roof and resurfacing with new tiles. The old roof was made of bamboo placed above the trusses with about 6 inches of mud (which in time became dust)  and on top of that the roof tiles. This made for a very cool but very heavy decking. Many of the trusses had warped so they had to also be replaced. Needless to say, removing each tile (8500 sq ft) and all of the dirt, bamboo and rotten lumber was a lot of work and very messy. The new tile is much lighter and will work great. All we need now is a rain to test it out. Last year each rain storm brought to my knees praying the roof would not cave in.
We are planning on having Phase II pretty much done by the end of September. Our crew (both hired and volunteers) will have to work hard in order for this to happen, but God has blessed with both a dedicated and hard working group.
I will post more photos soon.
